In the Restaurant…

AND GUESS WHAT DATE IS COMING SOON????!!! On Thursday, 9th September it will be exactly 1 year since Chris and Judy took over the Restaurant! And what a year it’s been! Dan the Man is going to come and play from 6:00 pm so get on your dancing shoes! PLUS there will be free champagne and tapas for everyone!
Ake Ake Restaurant is NOT just about formal dining.
Far from it!
Feel free to just roll up and enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine (or two!) and read the paper by the fire or sit in the sunshine on the deck after a game on the petanque court.
To encourage this brazen relaxation, we have introduced a Tapas menu for (initially) Friday evenings. You will be able to choose as many items as you like from the menu and match them with a glass or half glass from a selection of great Spanish wines. (Click here for Tapas Menu)
Don’t let the dreary winter weather or the cold nights put you off!!
Chris has also decided to change the Lunch and Dinner menu – just to keep things interesting! Click here to view the Lunch Menu. Click here for Dinner Menu.
We also have some exciting news! Chris has been asked to be one of the “Guest Chefs” at the Northland Long Lunch which is set for Sunday, 19th September up at the Carrington Hotel. Chris will be matching his dish with John’s Chambourcin wine. All VERY exciting!
Our “SUNDAY ROAST CLUB” is proving to be a HUGE hit. Every Sunday there is a different Roast, so why not come in, relax by the fire, read the papers and enjoy a Traditional Roast Lunch.Enjoy all this for only $19.50 per person AND come 5 times, and your 6th Roast is FREE! Kids of course will be 1/2 price at $10.00.
Our WINTER opening hours will be: Lunch – Thursday to Sunday and Dinner – Thursday to Saturday. ** If you have a large group booking for a day or night we are not usually open, then we will be happy to open especially for the occasion.
John and the family are back from their holidays and are more than happy to provide tastings for those who would like to sample Ake Ake’s wonderful wines. This is free if you stay for lunch or purchase wine.
We look forward to seeing you .

from john,
talking to his vines and hiding in the cellar…..
All our variates except the Syrah have started bud break so here we go for another season!!
In a couple of weeks we will be doing some more planting, replacing individual vines that have died or not performed and re-planting one of our blocks with another white. We think we will plant Sauvignon Blanc but the alternative is Albarino, Albarino appears suited to the Far North climate but will anyone buy it? Any suggestions?
We will be releasing our 2010 Pinot Gris, our first, in a few weeks ( when the labels arrive) and also the 2010 Rose.
2010 was a great vintage up here in the Far North and our Pinot Gris has had very little handling, no finning, no added sugar, no wood etc. Its a dry fruity style, maybe more like a good Italian Pinot Grigio than the French style. Lots and lots of fruit.
Went through the winery this week and tasted all the 2010 wine in barrel and tank. I always find it difficult to really tell as most of the wine wont be bottled until march/April but they are looking good so far.
The stand out wines to me were the Chambourcin of course but also the Cabernet Franc which is not in oak, just tank, but tasting wonderfully fruity. I may bottle this earlier than usual or blend with the Merlot. Will wait and see.
The reserve chardonnay is also tasting great, still going through malo and sitting in the same barrels it fermented in, I lees stir every week.
Well must go and do some work.
Cheers
john
