Hi, I’m John and I am the vintner here at Ake Ake Vineyard..I tend the grapes, make the wine, and if you come for a wine tasting or tour I am the bald big eared chap who will have the pleasure of tasting my wines with you.
I am a self taught wine maker and have now completed seven vintages, so far so good. As our production is small I can be very hands on and crush every grape, top up, lees stir, and clean every barrel and taste every barrel or tank each month. I also put the cork in every bottle!!.
Being small enables us to play around a little and do small runs such as our 2010 Chardonnay/Pinot Gris blend of which there are only 640 bottles.
I don’t usually fine our wines, none since the 2008 vintage, and I don’t mess around with them. If I get it right in the vineyard them the grapes should be good enough that I can just guide the wine through to bottling.
I make about five or six differant wines a year, they are ready for drinking on release but wines such as our Reserve Chardonnay and Chambourcin, will I think, age very well
